I told you not to fight Evelyn head-on. Freeze her out long enough, and she’ll fold. She’s terrified of losing you. That’s why she’s finally behaving.” Grant believed every word. He even praised her for being clever. That night, he called me into his office and promised me a raise, my old position back, and the European honeymoon he had delayed for three years. It was the first kind thing he had offered me in a long time. He expected me to cry with happiness. I didn’t.
