The story begins at an absurd masquerade ball hosted by a wealthy family. Megan, who comes from a poor background, is drugged by her stepfather and forced to work as a server to pay off his debt. When the drug takes effect, she flees into a lounge, where she has a one-night stand with Ewan Riley, the reluctant heir who also has no desire to attend the party. Due to childhood trauma, Ewan experiences a physical aversion to being touched by any woman, but Megan is the one exception. Afterward, Megan hurriedly slips away while Ewan is gone, leaving them with only hazy memories of each other and Ewan's tie.
