Charles and Ella have been married for three years, but they've never slept together. In fact, he had always spent his evenings on someone else's bed, while Ella slept alone. She once did conceive a child with Charles, but his mother pushed earnestly for the baby's abortion. One night, a drunken Charles decided to return home and knock on the door. As soon as Ella opened it, he leaned towards her and made some suggestive moves.

Ella didn't resist much but was not pleased with Charles' improper demeanor and harsh words. At the same time, he was remarking how he would never love her, and that he only married her to fulfill his grandfather's wishes. Of course, Ella, being mute, could only listen and bear in pain while he humped her. The next day, Charles received a voice message from his lover, Luna, who reproached him for going home to his mute wife instead of staying with her.

Later, during a family gathering, there was a heated discussion as to whether Charles should have a child to prolong the lineage, an idea that was strongly opposed by Charles' mother. Ella is a beautiful mute woman adopted by the Lu family when she was a little girl. Upon arrival, she met Charles, her future husband, who greeted her affectionately. Coming from a very poor background, she was often ill-treated by most members of the family, except for Charles (to an extent) and his grandfather, who thought she was the best pick for the former.

She had always loved Charles, though that love was, for a very long time, one-sided. She knew this all along and, thus, understood why he wanted to spend more time with his true love, Luna, though she was still hopeful that, one day, he would fall in love with her.

Charles

Charles is a handsome young CEO and the current leader of the Lu family business. He met Ella when she was very young, and they got along quite well, though his feelings for Ella were not on the same level as her feelings for him. He always saw her as a friend and nothing more, never hiding his love for Luna. Notwithstanding the fact he appreciated Ella, he also resented the fact that he had to abandon all hopes of a life together with Luna to heed a family member's will.

Luna

Luna is the main villain in the drama, a spoiled wench whose beauty is only equal to her wickedness and manipulative character. She had always appeared naive when around Charles, trying to portray Ella in the worst possible light. She has always pressed Charles to divorce Ella, even when knowing he had a commitment towards his grandfather to maintain that relationship. She's also prone to humiliating her rival at every possible turn, especially when she's on her own.
